As sit-down restaurants across the country are shutting down for the foreseeable future, they are starting to rely on takeout as their only source of income. Many restaurants that have delivered before are also starting to do delivery for a 5-mile radius from their restaurant. Most places are implementing curb-side pickup. You call in an order, pull into the parking lot, and an employee brings the food right out to you. This is really the only option for a lot of locally owned businesses. They cannot afford to shut down for a few months and then re-open when all of this clears up. They have bills to pay now.
If you can, consider supporting local businesses during this time. Whether you order carry-out now or purchase a gift card for future use. Some people may be concerned with the health risks in ordering food from a restaurant, but researchers have said it is just the same as the food in the grocery store being packaged in a factory and then shipped here. Also, so many people are probably touching and putting back products in the grocery store. The same risks are involved whether you buy from a restaurant or a grocery store. So why not get food to-go at least once a week from a restaurant you would like to see remain open after this is all done.
Since many restaurants are going to the to-go model, they have to order packaging supplies in order to package up their food and send it along. This could mean a lot of different things depending on the business and the type of food they are distributing.
Thank you bags
Most businesses already use this product. These are the plastic bags that hold together all of your food containers. They make it easier to transport food, silverware, and napkins from the restaurant to the customer.
Food containers
There are all different types of food containers and packaging supplies for food. Restaurants can go with the standard foam food containers that can hold sandwiches and rice dishes. The plastic container is great for salads. Aluminum containers are great for messier foods like pastas. Some restaurants are often opting for deli boxes and making pre-made lunches to be distributed quickly.
Paper merchandise bags
These are great for little pastries or sweets that restaurants are selling. This is also a great place to store bread. Restaurants can add little treats for a token of their gratitude for their customers still supporting their business.
